Services

woman getting massageDr. Neel Kumar specializes in providing gentle, safe, and effective chiropractic treatment for a wide variety of conditions. Some of the services offered at Northeast Chiropractic include the following:

Massage Therapy

At Northeast Chiropractic we offer massage therapy by Licensed Massage Therapists. Massage Therapy perfectly compliments chiropractic care since your muscles are more relaxed and you will be comfortable receiving the chiropractic adjustment.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy refers to various techniques used to address joint restrictions and soft tissue dysfunction. It differs from chiropractic adjustments in that the movements are slower and use less force. For patients who aren’t comfortable with classic chiropractic manipulation, manual therapy is a good alternative.

Sometimes referred to as joint mobilization, manual therapy techniques are used to stretch contracted muscles, impart more range of motion to a joint, and re-set disarticulated joints. The techniques can be passive (patient does not engage muscles during the procedure), active (patient is asked to move the treated body part during the procedure), or active-resistant (patient applies a resistive force during the procedure). The techniques are commonly used in various forms by physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and massage therapists.

Exercise Therapy

massage tableResearch shows that specific, targeted exercise routines can be helpful in rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries. After we get you out of pain with active treatment, you will be given a specific exercise regimen to rehabilitate the problem area.

Exercise rehabilitation has two goals:

  1. Strengthen muscles and ligaments so that they can render proper support, thus reducing the chance of relapse.
  2. Re-train the affected joint structure by moving it through its full range of motion under a load, which will enable it to function better. The exercises we teach are easy to do, and don’t require bulky equipment. This is important, because you will need to do them at home in order to get the best possible results.

Physiotherapy

electrotherapy machinePhysiotherapy modalities are usually incorporated into your treatment plan. While the chiropractic component mainly addresses the structural aspect of your musculo-skeletal system, physical therapy helps the structural component remain aligned for a longer period of time. Some of the physical therapy modalities that may be used prior to the chiropractic adjustments include the following:

Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Mechanical Traction
Manual Traction
Cold Laser Therapy
Hot/Cold Therapy

After you receive the chiropractic adjustments you may be given additional physical therapy modalities such as getting stretched out and be given therapeutic exercises.

Chiropractic Care

treatment roomChiropractic is an effective component of healthcare and in a form of treatment that helps prevent spinal misalignments from interfering with your spinal cord and nervous system.

The benefits of Chiropractic Care include:

  • helps keep your spine flexible and your joints moveable and healthy
  • helps improve posture, and thus energy levels
  • helps remove pressure to your spinal cord allowing your nerves to work properly
  • helps foster a more responsive nervous system, reducing chances of "throwing your back out" due to poor muscular coordination.

When do you know if you need Chiropractic Care?

  • if you engage in activities that involve trauma/stress to the spine, such as long hours sitting at a desk, heavy lifting, or playing contact sports.
  • if you have a history of the above, especially sports injuries you may already have areas in your spine that may be placing pressure on your spinal nerves or spinal cord.
  • if you have bad posture, such as uneven hips, uneven shoulders, a head tilt, or hunched back it means you have improper biomechanics and this is leading to stress in your spinal column which speeds up the process of arthritis.  It's best to check yourself in the mirror for these things or ask a friend to observe you because the brain tends to register poor posture as normal, over time. You may always call Northeast Chiropractic at 212-245-5678 to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Kumar.
  • if you find yourself frequently low on energy. This can be caused by abnormal breathing patterns and excessive muscle exertion due to spinal misalignments.
  • if you suffer from recurring headaches, or get sick (cold, flu, virus) more than once a year you may have stress to your spinal cord coming from misaligned vertebra.

Custom Made Orthotics

At Northeast Chiropractic we offer you custom made orthotics by Foot Levelers. Your feet are like the foundation of a building and must be aligned precisely. Unfortunately very few of us have perfect arches in our feet and if you have a dropped arch in one foot this will transmit to a misalignment in your pelvis and cause your spine to become misaligned. Dr. Neel Kumar can exam you to determine if you can benefit from custom orthotics. Some insurances include coverage for custom orthotics and we will be glad to check for you.
